Notes: Clark was the son of Simon and Phebe (Churchill) Fairfield. He was born December 1832, according to the 1900 census, though his obituary in the Waverly Republican lists a birth year of 1829. Clark was only 16 when his father died, and he is mentioned as a son in the 1848 will. In the 1850 census, just two years later, he is out in the world on his own. The above-mentioned obituary indicates Clark migrated to Iowa circa 1854. He remained in Iowa the rest of his life, dying in Des Moines October 20, 1904 (obit). Clark married 1) Mary Jane Parker on October 6, 1856 (IL Marriage Records) in Winnebago Co., IL. He married 2) Katherine "Kate" Gause May 15, 1868 (Waverly VR).
