Notes: Captain Asa Fairfield was the son of Captain William and Mary (King) Fairfield. He was born January 28, 1797, in Maine. He left home at an early age and became a mariner, like his father before him. He migrated to Indiana before 1835 and was a wealthy, prominent citizen of the Fort Wayne area. For more about his activities in Fort Wayne, read the article by Terry Pepper about the opening of the Wabash & Erie Canal, which includes a photo of Asa and his home.
