Notes: John Corbin attended Harvard University (class of 1892), where he earned a B.A. and then an M.A. in English. Family historian Frank Corbin noted he then "had a year residence at Balliol College, Oxford (1894), after which he returned to this country. He was then Barrett Wendall's assistant as instructor in English composition at Harvard 1895 to 1897. From there he went to New York City and entered the employ of Harper Bros., where he was first assistant to the editor of Harper's Monthly and later dramatic critic of Harper's Weekly. Dramatic criticism seemed to be his chosen occupation, for he occupied that position with the New York Times in 1902 and with the New York Sun from 1905 to 1907. Then after two years as literary manager of the New York Theater and three years as secretary of the Drama Society, he returned to dramatic criticism for the Times in 1917 and later became an editorial writer. Meanwhile, he wrote many magazine articles and 12 books ... In 1899 he married Amy [Allene?] Foster, of New York. They have no children."
