Notes: Franklin Corbin Jr. was the son of Franklin Nichols and Meta (Lackner) Corbin. According to his own autobiographical notes, in his youth "he became much interested in radio, which was then in the early experimental stages. He, at home, built a working receiving set and learned the Morse code ... After graduating from New Trier High School, in Winnetka, he entered Dartmouth College in the class of 1920. When he was in his sophomore year, our Navy was much in need of men with a knowledge of radio. He finished the college year and then volunteered for radio service in the Navy. After finishing his training at Great Lakes, he was assigned to the battleship Kearsarge as radio man. He served there until the close of the war. After his return, Dartmouth College awarded him the U.S. Science degree, for which he had been working there. Then he spent another year doing special work at Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Boston. On Februrary 3, 1926, he married Margaret Arrnoet, who was born in Moscow, Russia, on September 5, 1899. she came to this country in 1917 with the intention of getting a technical education. she entered Cornell University with the class of 1921 and graduated with a C.E. degree. That same year she joined the Hoover Expedition for Famine Relief in Russia. In 1923, she returned to this country. She then secured a position with the Portland Cement Association doing research work and translating. In 1931 she became a citizen of this country."
