Notes: William Dade McKinstry was the son of Colonel Alexander McKinstry and his wife, Virginia (Dade). William was born February 27, 1856, in Mobile, Alabama, and became a lawyer like his father. He married Evelyn "Eva" Sheldon January 12, 1881. Sadly, William and Eva died in Mobile of illnesses within just a couple weeks of each other, William on April 22, 1900, and Eva on May 9, 1900, leaving six orphaned children. In this census, taken about 10 years after their death, several of the children are still single and living together, with eldest child Alexander head of household.
