Notes: Ernest was the son of the Rev. Nathan S. and Sarah J. (Fairfield) Burton. He was born February 4, 1856, in Granville, Ohio, according to University of Chicago alumni records. He became a professor of New Testament at the University in Chicago and the president of same 1923-25. He died May 26, 1925, in Chicago, Illinois.
